Okmulgee Memorial Hospital’s Respiratory Therapy department is located on the second floor of the hospital. Respiratory therapy is an allied health field involved in the assessment and treatment of breathing disorders. OMH currently has a full-time staff of four respiratory therapists.
OMH respiratory therapists not only provide treatment to patients in the hospital, but also to homebound patients. Respiratory therapy is a combination of medicinal and chest therapy with the goal of improving the patient’s ability to breathe comfortably. It’s not only given to patients who suffer from asthma, emphysema and other breathing disorders, but also emergency care for those who have suffered a stroke or had cardiac resuscitation. OMH respiratory therapists provide PFT, BIPAP, CPAP, pulse oximetry, incentive spirometry services to patients as well as all respiratory equipment, such as ventilators and oxyhoods, to patients of the hospital or under the care of a physician.
