Welcome to Okmulgee Memorial Hospital’s Surgery Department! The surgical unit at OMH has a full-time staff of surgeons, nurses and surgical techs that provide 24-hour care to surgery patients. The surgery department performs both outpatient and inpatient surgeries. The department has the capability of performing general, orthopedic, urological, endoscopy, cataract removal with lens implant, podiatry, and ear, nose and throat surgeries. The surgical unit also provides pain management services to surgical patients.
CRNA
The Okmulgee Memorial Hospital Department of Anesthesia Services provides a full range of anesthetic options to surgical patients. General anesthetics are customized to a patient’s specific needs and we also offer regional anesthetic techniques, such as spinal, epidural, or extremity block to patients who would prefer them or have health issues that make general anesthesia unsuitable.
When a surgical patient arrives at the hospital for surgery, they will be seen by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. The CRNA will complete a presurgical interview and assessment to determine the type of anesthesia to use during a patient’s surgical procedure. Patients should be open and honest with their CRNA in the presurgical interview because it will allow the CRNA to determine what anesthetic would best serve the patient’s needs. The CRNA also monitors a surgical patient’s vital signs and anesthesia level through the entire surgery. They will also be readily available to patients who are recovering in the OMH Surgery Department Post Anesthesia Care Unit.

Preparing for Surgery
To have a surgical procedure performed at OMH, a patient’s physician must first contact an OMH surgical physician for a preoperative appointment. All surgeries can only be performed under the order of a physician. The preoperative appointment is done to determine your health history and surgical assessment. A patient must arrive in outpatient services at least 10 minutes before their scheduled preoperative appointment to check-in. In the preoperative appointment, a surgical nurse will first review the patient’s medical history. Then, the patient will have lab work and other screenings to ensure the patient is healthy enough for surgery. Finally, a patient will be seen by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist or CRNA to determine the type of anesthesia to give the patient during their surgery. On the day of surgery, arrive at least one hour before your surgical appointment to check-in and register. A parent or legal guardian must accompany all patients under 18 on the day of surgery.
