Visitors Guidelines
At OMH, we believe visitors play an important role in a patient’s recovery and we encourage you to visit your loved ones while they’re in our care, but we have a few guidelines that we ask you to follow while on hospital premises:
  • All visitors should wash their hands or use the alcohol hand rub in the patient’s room.
  • If you have a cold, sore throat or any contagious disease, please don’t visit.
  • Please maintain a quiet environment as respect to all patients in the hospital.
  • Please be considerate of both patients in a semiprivate room.
  • Healthy children may visit at the nurse’s discretion. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
  • Visitors may be asked to leave the room during exams and tests.
  • Only two visitors at a time are allowed in a patient’s room.
  • If the patient’s door or curtain is closed, check-in at the nurses station before entering.
  • Due to allergies and sensitivities, latex balloons aren’t allowed. However, we do allow Mylar balloons.
  • Before bringing food or drinks to any patient, check with a nurse first.
  • Don’t use the patient’s bathroom. A visitors’ bathroom is located in the hallway.
  • OMH is a smoke-free facility, meaning no smoking is allowed inside the hospital. OMH recognizes the hazards of smoking and enforces a no smoking policy throughout the institution. Patients, visitors, physicians, personnel and volunteers are asked to smoke only in designated smoking areas on hospital premises.
  • Don’t bring pets or animals on the hospital premises or in the hospital. Only service animals are allowed in the hospital or on the premises.
  • No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the premises.
  • No soliciting is allowed on hospital premises, meaning patients and their families aren’t allowed to sale items in the hospital or on the hospital grounds.

Staying with a Patient
For a family member or visitor to stay with a patient, prior arrangements must be made. Arrangements for a family member to stay with a patient must be made before a patient is admitted into the hospital.
