Volunteering at the hospital is a rewarding and selfless act, and we at OMH are so grateful for our volunteers. Their efforts truly increase the efficiency of hospital operations.
There are many rewards for volunteering at OMH. Volunteers learn new skills, meet new people and make new friends, not to mention the sense of accomplishment they receive from being an invaluable member of the community. Volunteers also have the opportunity to match their skills and interests with their work assignments. There are many areas of the hospital in need of help from volunteers and scheduling is very flexible.
OMH volunteers are known as the auxiliary. The auxiliary has more than 50 members who donate over 12,000 hours of service a year. On a daily basis auxiliary members can be found providing assistance in patient transportation, directing visitors at the information desk, delivering gifts, providing clerical and courier services or running the hospital’s gift shop and snack bar.
The Auxiliary also raises and donates money to the hospital. Since its creation in 1959 in what was once Okmulgee City Hospital, the Auxiliary has raised thousands of dollars for hospital scholarships and programs. This money was raised through fundraisers, and gift shop and snack bar sales. The Auxiliary also provides additional support to the hospital by participating in community events on behalf of the hospital.
We at OMH are so proud and fortunate for such dedicated and committed volunteers!
